Discover & Ecosystems
The People and Companies pages aren't a random directory. They're a ranked list of who's actually worth knowing, based on real signals from your own profile.
How matches are chosen
A few things push someone up your list, in plain terms:
- Sharing your role, or a closely related one, or working in the same industry.
- Your Offer matching their Need, or theirs matching yours.
- Having people you're already connected to in common.
- Being at a similar career stage to you.
- Being a verified or highly trusted member, which only ever acts as a small tie breaker, never the main reason you'd see someone.
On the company side, this same idea can surface a genuinely useful cross industry match, like connecting a founder raising capital with a relevant investor, based on what each side is actually trying to accomplish rather than just shared industry alone.
If there aren't enough real matches for you yet, the page tells you that honestly and shows you the newest members instead of leaving the page empty. It never pretends a match exists when one doesn't.
Acting as your company changes what you see
When you switch to acting as a company you own, Discover, Feed, and Opportunities all shift to reflect that company's own profile instead of your personal one. A founder acting as their startup sees suggestions relevant to the business they're running, not to their own personal resume.
What Ecosystems are
Ecosystems are how UmayNow organizes the whole platform by industry first. Broad industries like Gaming or FinTech each have more specific sub ecosystems underneath them, so Gaming has Esports sitting inside it, for example. You never sign up for one directly. You're automatically a member of whichever Ecosystems genuinely match your own declared industry, capabilities, or tools, or your company's.
Inside an Ecosystem, you'll find:
- The most active open opportunities from companies genuinely in that space.
- A feed of posts from the people and companies who belong to it.
- The most active companies and contributors.
- Whatever posts are getting the most attention right now.
If you're just curious about a sector you're not actually part of, you can follow an Ecosystem instead of being a real member. You can browse everything in it, but nothing of yours counts toward it, since you're genuinely not in that sector.
