Connections & Messaging
There are two different ways to keep up with someone on UmayNow: connecting with them, and following them. They sound similar but they do different things.
Connecting versus following
Connecting is a two way relationship. You send a request, they accept it, and from then on you're connected. This is what "mutual connections" is built from, and it's also what unlocks writing a recommendation for each other later on.
Following is lighter. It doesn't need anyone's approval, and it's enough on its own to bring someone's posts into your feed. You can follow a person, a company, or an Ecosystem you're interested in.
Messaging
You don't need to be connected with someone to message them. As long as you're not blocked, the message button just works. Muting someone only changes what you see, it never stops them from messaging you. Blocking is stronger and mutual, it shuts down messaging in both directions, and it also ends any connection between you.
Mentions
Typing @ followed by someone's name in a post, a comment, or a message turns their name into a clickable link straight to their profile or company page. It's a quick way to point someone out or bring them into a conversation.
Vouching for someone
There are two ways to help someone build trust. You can click "Verify" on their Trust tab, a simple, one time vote that says you genuinely know them. Or you can accept a project invite together, since that kind of mutual confirmation counts as a stronger signal than a single click.
Writing a recommendation
You can write a recommendation for anyone you're connected with, as long as you're both Verified. It stays private between the two of you until they choose to approve it. Once they do, it appears on their profile for everyone to see.
